How do I keep my spa jets clean

A large part of keeping your hot tub properly maintained is in your choice of spa pool manufacturer. Some spa pools will have detachable jets which require regular cleaning whereas Hot Spring Spas have jets which help with cleaning and maintenance. They also help to provide a warm water massage experience like no other.

Periodically cleaning spa jets, filters and draining spa water are all part of the general spa pool maintenance process.

Keeping spa jets clean is incredibly important to ensure that dirt and debris are removed so that you can continue to safely enjoy your hot tub.

Why should I keep my spa jets clean?

Keeping spa jets clean is an integral part of hot tub maintenance. This is because, without regular cleaning, spa jet jets will not work as efficiently as they should.

Dirt, debris and other particles can continue to accumulate within the jets and reduce their speed. Spa jets play an essential role in keeping spa water clean as well.

Spa jets should be cleaned periodically to keep your spa pool free from sand, dirt and other minerals accumulating, and at least every month or every other month.

With regular cleaning of spa jets, you can continue to enjoy your spa pool for a long time. Combined with filter cleaning and draining the water for a deep clean, you’ll find that you can enjoy your spa pool for a long time to come.

Clean spa jets are crucial for ensuring that you can continue to moderate the volume and pressure and work as they should.

What are the best ways to keep spa jets clean?

There are a few different ways to clean your spa jet jets, and we’ll explore some of the more popular ways to clean your spa jets.

We recommend two products to assist you in maintaining your spa pool; Spa Shine or Stain and Scale

Spa Shine

Spa Shine from Hot Spring Spas is a silicone based cleaner and conditioner that cleans, shines and polishes acrylic surfaces. The product polishes and protects surfaces from UV, moisture and harsh chemical degradation. The product is ideal for hot tub surfaces.

Stain & Scale

Protect your spa pool from the damaging effects of scale buildup by utilising Stain & Scale. This product prevents calcium build-up on spa surfaces and controls mineral stain and scale formation.

Cleaning your spa jets

Now that we know what to clean your spa pool jets with, let’s look at exactly how to clean hot tub jets. Happily the process is relatively simple and can be approach in two main ways:

A quick clean

  • Drain the spa.
  • Get a soft rag and one of the cleaning products listed above.
  • Spray and wipe the jet externally and internally (as far as you can reach).
  • Rinse with fresh water.
  • Refill the spa.

A deeper clean

  • Drain the spa.
  • Remove the jets according to the instructions listed in the owner’s manual. Most jets are either screw-in, twist lock or press-fit.
  • Mix a cleaning solution that is one part white vinegar, one part water.
  • Allow each jet to soak face-down in the vinegar solution for 3-4 hours.
  • Rinse with fresh water.
  • Replace the jets and refill the spa.

How do you fix spa pool jets that are not working?

There’s no more disappointing feeling for a hot tub owner than lowering yourself into your spa for a well earned soak, only to realise that one or more of your spa pool jets are not working.

There are a few reasons why your spa pool jets may not be operational:

  • An air lock within the internal pipes.
  • Some other form of blockage, such as a build-up of debris or grime.
  • An issue with the pump.

The solution will depend on the issue at hand, but there are a few basic steps that you can follow to address the most common spa pool jet issues:

  • Do a hard reset by turning your spa off at the wall, leaving it off for 30 seconds, then turning it back on again.
  • There may be an air lock. As this video explains, air locks can be avoided if you fill your Hot Spring spa using the fill pipe, and they are also relatively easy to fix if they do occur.

If your jet or jets still aren’t working after taking these steps, there may be a deeper issue at play. Get in touch with the experts at your local Hot Spring dealer – they’ll be happy to help!

Why are clean spa jets important?

Clean jets are an integral part of overall maintenance and make a massive difference to your spa pool experience. Doing so can also help in preventing algae growth and can kill bacteria.

Regular cleaning of spa jets ensures that you have hygienic and clean spa water that you can continue to enjoy for a long time. Remember that cleaning your spa jets is just one part of overall maintenance, so create a simple schedule to make sure you stay on top of it.

Another consideration to bear in mind is that cleaning the spa's water and filters is also an essential part of regular maintenance for spas and their components.
