How much does a spa pool cost to run?

Sure, Hot Spring spa pools can be powered for as little as $1* a day, but what will your preferred model cost?

The energy your spa uses depends on a variety of factors, including the size and features of your chosen spa model, the temperature you set, how frequently you soak, the climate of your area and the cost of your electricity (although this can be offset if you have access to an alternative energy source like solar power).

Looking to get a basic idea of the cost to run a Hot Spring spa? Check out the energy calculator above! We have designed this calculator to give a basic estimate of your spa pool energy consumption over the course of a month, which can help guide you on the right spa pool for your situation.

No matter which Hot Spring spa pool you choose, you can be confident that you won’t just enjoy a high quality, innovative, long-lasting and ultra-luxurious machine, but the most energy efficient model on the market.

A greener choice

By choosing a Hot Spring spa pool you’ll enjoy significant hip pocket savings over the lifetime of the machine. You’ll also be helping to save the stunning nature that New Zealand is famous for.

We care about protecting the natural resources of our beautiful country. It is one of the main drivers in our quest to engineer the most energy efficient spa pools in New Zealand. We want to ensure that the next generation of Kiwis gets to enjoy our stunning nature, including the geothermal pools that formed the inspiration for the Hot Spring brand.

As the independent testing has proven, a Hot Spring spa pool will use less power, and will therefore demand fewer resources, than any other brand on the market.

Built for efficiency from the ground up

How do luxurious and feature-packed Hot Spring spa pools also offer owners the lowest running costs on the New Zealand market? The secret is in bringing an efficiency mindset to every aspect of spa pool design and manufacturing. It’s something we call our Energy Smart® system.

This system is built on two central pillars:

1. High quality insulation

The most important factor in the energy efficiency of a spa pool is preventing heat from escaping. Hot Spring insulation is designed to keep the warmth in, which reduces the power used by the heater. At Hot Spring we also offer fully insulated covers that form a perfect seal around the lip of your spa, avoiding the heat leakage common in other brands.

2. Innovative equipment

At Hot Spring we’ve got a reputation for offering an extensive array of features in our spa pools. What’s less recognised is the degree of energy efficiency innovation that each spa pool boasts, like our SilentFlo 5000 system that keeps the water constantly moving while using less power than a 40W light bulb, and our hot air induction jets that transfer otherwise wasted latent heat from internal equipment back into the water.

Use of the Hot Spring Spa Calculator - Terms and Conditions:

  1. The Hot Spring Spa calculator provides indicative running costs for Spa Pool models as indicated on the calculator for New Zealand and Australia. The calculations are intended for indicative purposes only and should not be considered as exact financial or energy usage advice.
  2. The temperature data for each region is calculated as an annual mean average. Please note that actual running costs are likely to decrease during the summer months and increase during the cooler winter months.
  3. The mean average temperatures have been sourced from NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) in New Zealand (https://niwa.co.nz) and the Bureau of Meteorology in Australia (http://www.bom.gov.au).
  4. kWh prices have been sourced from Canstar Blue in Australia (https://www.canstarblue.com), and Canstar Blue in New Zealand (https://www.canstarblue.co.nz).
  5. Calculations are based on simulated daily use as per the ‘testing summary’ in point seven.
  6. While every effort has been made to verify the data used in the calculations, variances in kWh prices, extended use, and weather conditions may impact the accuracy of the outputs.
  7. Testing summary
    • Tests were carried out by Watkins Manufacturing Corporation, Vista, California, USA in their large environmental chamber
    • The average measured air temperature was 14.8 degrees centigrade for the duration of the test
    • The spa controller temperature was set at 38.7 degrees centigrade for the duration of the test
    • The duration of the test was 24 hours
    • The test simulated consumer usage with lights and jets engaged for 15 minutes with the spa pool cover left off for a further 15 minutes.
    • During the entire testing period the circulation pump and ozone generator were operating, meaning the water was continually circulated and sanitised
